A day for families to find out all about the bird life of Lathkill Dale’s woods and open spaces. Follow bird trails, take a bird walk, make your own nest and help to contribute to our records of birds found on the reserve. For those hungry after all this, Easter eggs may be available! Birds that might be seen from the ‘Meet the Species’ list of 2012 species include Long-tailed Tit, Buzzard, Treecreeper, Dipper, Raven, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Grey Wagtail and Willow Warbler. The event base and guided walk will be by the main track in an easily accessible part of the dale. If you plan to go further afield on the reserve, please bring suitable clothing and footwear. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead or under close control, especially as birds will be nesting along the river. One hour guided bird walk (with binoculars provided) will take place at 2pm.
The event will take place at the Over Haddon end of Lathkill Dale. Park at the car park at Over Haddon (charge) and follow the lane down the side of this to the reserve gate. Go through this and follow the track for about a quarter of a mile. The event base will be clearly visible by the track just below Mandale Mine.
