Meet the Species – Signs of Spring

A day for families and others to come and enjoy signs of Spring in Lathkill Dale’s woodlands. As well as trees in bud and some lovely woodland flowers the first feathered Apart from a variety of trees, plants that might be seen from the ‘Meet the Species’ list of 2012 species include Ramsons, Wood Anemone, Wood Sorrel, Bluebell and Yellow Archangel. A day for families and others to come and enjoy signs of Spring in Lathkill Dale’s woodlands. As well as trees in bud and some lovely woodland flowers the first feathered Summer visitors may well have arrived. The event base and guided walk will be by the main track in an easily accessible part of the dale. If you plan to go further afield on the reserve, please bring suitable clothing and footwear. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead or under close control, especially as birds will be nesting along the trail.

Meeting point: Over Haddon end of Dale. Park at the car park at Over Haddon (charge) and follow the lane down the side of this to the reserve gate. Go through this and follow the track for about a quarter of a mile. The event base will be clearly visible by the track just below Mandale Mine.

Meet the Species is part of Discovering Places – the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad Campaign to inspire the UK to discover their local environment. It is co-ordinated by the Bristol Natural History Consortium, and has joined forces with Local Leaders and Garden for the Games to get as many people as possible enjoying the outdoors and getting closer to nature in a diverse range of events.
